This Crazy Week, "OhYeah!", and... School?!

This past week or two has been crazyyy. I had work all week, then the past three days I have been moving out of my apartment. I really thought I didn't have that much stuff-- apparently I have a TON of stuff because it was tough to move everything! And cleaning... not my thing. haha. But now that I'm in my new apartment, it is SO AWESOME! I love it! It's nice to just be able to have a fresh new start and organize everything and de-clutter :) I cant wait to decorate, too.

Also this past week, I had an interview with OhYeah! Nutrition... and now I am officially volunteering with them this semester! I am SO excited! I will get to set up events to occur at nutrition and fitness expos, football tailgating parties, sports events, all over my campus! (largest university in the country ;) ) I also will get to attend these events and promote and hand out OhYeah! products such as their protein shakes and bars! I will definitely keep updating about this and all the events I will be going to! I have a training session this Thursday...so we'll see what happens :) This is such a great opportunity and I am so thankful for it! Did I mention I was really excited about this?! ;)

AND... I'm in disbelief that classes are going to be starting up again. In less than a month!! I actually can't wait. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I want to do homework and study. I miss it! I don't know why......
This semester I'm taking 17 credits:

-Functional Anatomy/Kinesiology (3)
-Physiology of Exercise (3)
-Physics (4)
-Research Methods (4)
-Assistant Teaching Assistant for Anatomy and Physiology Lab (3)

It's gonna be a crazy semester..... All of this PLUS interning at a physical therapy clinic. AHHH. I'm excited. :D

Vacations and Temptations

So, I haven't been able to write much because I've been on vacation here in Cape Cod. But...I got some down time alone so I thought I would write a new blog post! The thing I have been struggling with most being here is nutrition. I bought a gym membership so that is not the tough part. It IS tough when there are so many yummy restaurants everywhere!! Luckily, I am staying at a house with a kitchen and everything, so most meals I eat healthy, homemade meals. But for me, even if I just eat out one meal, it takes HOURS for me to feel better afterwards. I end up feeling sick the rest of the night if I go out to eat for dinner. In a way, this is kind of a "blessing" I guess you could say, because it will prevent me from eating bad in the future. I just have to keep telling myself, "is this yummy food going to really be worth the sick feeling later on??" That being said, there are also times when you may not be able to completely control WHERE you eat. There are times when you just want to go out to eat, or your family does, etc. So, there are ways you can EAT HEALTHY at restaurants! For example, I went to this little cafe yesterday. I got a Chai tea and chicken salad sandwich. The bread was not gluten free and there was probably too much mayo in the chicken salad. I should have known it would not do well with me! (I am sensitive to gluten) I need to make better choices--- I could have easily just ordered a chicken salad with no dressing! There are ways around everything and making better choices is the key to success. Don't let food or hunger control your mind and body!

My First Blog Ever!

Hi everybody! Thanks for coming to my blog. :) I am currently a college student, a junior, majoring in Kinesiology. Throughout my life, I have been in love with gymnastics, running, and cheerleading, and I was very goal-oriented with these obsessions of mine. Then, college began. I was allll on my own. My excess of financial aid allowed me to eat out practically EVERY DAY! I kept running at the gym the first few weeks of school, but that slowly tapered down. I joined a cheer team, but that got to be too expensive for a quickly dwindling college budget.  So, I pretty much did not exercise at all and ate whatever I wanted. This continued on my entire freshman year! Though I did not gain the “freshman 15,” I lost all my muscle and gained plenty of unhealthy fat. This is a great example of the concept of body composition. Although I was still my usual 105 pounds, it was not a healthy 105 pounds.  I just didn’t feel myself without my goals, exercising, and good nutrition. The summer after my freshman year… I entered a Summer Series Race, which included 6 races throughout out the summer. I also discovered…. WEIGHTS! One of the best things that’s ever happened to me.
Another important thing about me is that, two years ago at the beginning of my freshman year, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Then, a couple months ago, I found out it was actually Hashimoto’s Disease, an autoimmune disorder. I will explain more about this in another post, but basically my body is attacking itself (the thyroid). I have had some interesting struggles with that! If anyone else has a thyroid disease, or any kind of disease, I would be very interested to know how you’ve been pushing through it!
Now, as a junior in 2012, I decided to share the experiences I’ve had in being a student and making fitness a top priority, on my Facebook page, CollegeFit.  I want to be able to help people with the knowledge I’ve gained from being a Kinesiology major, all the reading I’ve done on fitness and nutrition, and my own personal experiences! I also would like this to be a type of journal where I can write down anything I’m feeling on a particular day or what I did on that day. Also, I would like anyone who wants to, to be able to ask me questions about health, nutrition, or anything. I love to help! J I do struggle with the journey of being healthy and fit, and I want this blog to keep me accountable and responsible for my actions.  Most importantly, I want to be able to look back and learn from my mistakes, as well as see how far I’ve come! J I have many goals that I will share with you all as time goes by. I hope you enjoyed this blog, and keep reading!
